Redefining Courage!

Do you remember your first time trying to ride a bike without the training wheels? Your first day of school? Or the first time you asked a girl or a boy to go on a date with you?
Try to remember that exact moment. How did you feel? Anxious, nervous, scared?
I’m sure you felt at least a little uncomfortable, but you did it anyway!
So why is it so hard to overcome our fears as adults?
It’s time to redefine Courage.
Society, books, Hollywood movies and even our parents have made us believe that bravery, fearlessness and heroism are synonyms of courage.
But being courageous is far more than that.
The word courage comes from the Latin word cor, which means heart. And what this tells us is that courage comes from our hearts.
Think about things like…
💥 Giving birth to a baby.
💥 Walking down the aisle on your wedding day.
💥 Ending a relationship.
💥 Quitting a job.
💥 Starting your own business.
💥 Going on a solo trip.
💥 Seeking help in tough times.
No one would call these heroic feats, but they certainly take courage. A lot of it.
Like Nelson Mandela said:
“Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.”
What are you scared of doing right now, what are you holding back from?
When stepping out of your comfort zone,
when making big decisions,
when facing change…
... fear will be present. It’s part of your nature, it’s what keeps you alive! But it doesn’t need to stop you from taking action.
When in fear take a few minutes to sit in silence and connect to your heart. Quiet your mind’s chatter and let your heart’s wisdom take the lead, let it show you how courageous you can be. Then, take the first step.
Remember, whatever your fear is, you can conquer it. Take the training wheels off your bike and if you scrape your knees in the process trust that your heart has what you need to heal, move forward and have the best ride ever!
With love,
Paola
